Clinton Ober’s concept of “earthing”, also known as “grounding”, consists in establishing a direct connection between the human body and the surface of the Earth. This practice reduces inflammation, relieves pain, improves sleep and reduces oxidative stress in the body.
The idea is that the Earth’s surface is negatively charged and when we come into direct contact with it (for example, by walking barefoot on grass), we absorb electrons that help neutralize free radicals in our bodies. This neutralization of free radicals has beneficial effects on our health, in particular by reducing chronic inflammation that is associated with many diseases.
Earthing® products, mats, mattresses and grounding patches have been developed to allow people to practice earthing even if they cannot walk barefoot on the Earth.
